Stop Right Here

We are two ships passing each other by on an ocean.

Sorry for shutting the gate

to stop the traffic between us

the paved driveway was smooth

couldn’t fault it in any way

wouldn’t want to see it deteriorate

pity as it always does

The happy hours we shared

were perfectly frozen in time

you could recall them with a smile

there were no harsh words exchanged

nor any specific question asked

nothing really had begun

Do not care for taking stock

not even considering options

solitude encouraging inner strength

no need to watch degeneration

enthusiasm long gone with youth

why ignite without a cause

Every now and then I would open the gate

changing scenery is good for the soul

not to reach for any promise

which is impossible for the giver to keep

could we pick up where we had left

if you are still available
